Toon Boom 360 rig in progress

Updated: Nov 26, 2023

VinDrawins Blogpost #4

Let me tell myself that I made some progress 😮‍💨 because last week didn't post as I was having a headache with how long this was taking. I understand I'm learning but at some, it starts hitting when it feels like this is just a forever thing and never ends 👀. Just a headache! I'm not going to cover the technical details for now. I'm still learning and know about a few next steps and the goal is to create an animated video 😐. Once, I reach there, I'll get to know my mistakes and find better ways myself 😏(without taking expensive courses). For now, I'm following DrawnSean and ZeBirdBrain. And this one video of OliOliOli 🧐.

Okay, so what exactly I did do in the last 2 weeks? Last time I showed you how the 2-point constraint for the leg system is working, that was interesting 😌. Then I applied the same thing to hands (for elbow movement). Once I was happy with joint movements, and then after that, I was confused with how to do turnaround 🤔. Means how much time it will take and whether will it work or not (overthinking 😵‍💫). Also, the finger structure is a bit messed up.

As I followed DrawnSean's video playlist on how to make a cartoons and, downloaded free rigged characters Smilez by Jordan Beatty and Olive by Kyu-bum Lee, understand what turnaround looks like from node (structural) pov 😶.

Literally, for a while, I started thinking why I'm doing this, what's this for? 🙄. I guess I was taking too much pressure by overthinking about anything 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️. I already had a few video ideas to work on, once character rigs of my characters are completed, it's like everything is there (including the rough storyboard, which I did earlier this year), I just had to learn how to hold the brush properly so that later once I start animating characters I should focus on the animation rather than solving basic technical obstacles 😶‍🌫️. And after almost getting closer to finishing this character I was relieved that yeah I'm making progress but slowly 🤧.

What's next? I wish to make a very small video of my OC, a test animation 🥲. But before that, I need to understand the lighting and shadow functions. So, yeah, I'm not so far 🫠 and it took 1 month of trial and error to understand Toon Boom Harmony. And Reddit and Discord communities are really helpful 😌.

See you next weekend and Have a happy weekend!
